Biography

Commissioner Heather Edelson comes to Hennepin County after having represented Edina in the Minnesota House of Representatives for six years. There, she was a champion for literacy as the Primary Author of the Read Act, worked extensively on the intersection of mental health and public safety and the complex human service needs of Minnesotans from recovery / addiction to disability policy and environmental laws working to protect our water and climate.  Heather served as an Assistant Leader at the Capitol for one term and the Vice Chair of the Ways and Means Committee– which oversees the state budget.

Commissioner Edelson relied on county services as a child and knows first hand just how critical services like rental assistance and child, utility, and food support, and public transportation can be for the residents of Hennepin County.

She has an B.A. from Hamline University in Legal Studies and master’s degree from the University of Minnesota and had a career as a clinical outpatient mental health therapist.
