Transit options map helps residents choose how they move
Hennepin County residents make decisions every day about how they travel to their destinations. We work to provide a range of transportation options, so everyone has choices that are safe and efficient.
Eliminating disparities in transportation means making sure people have the freedom to move with dignity and ease to access good jobs, education, healthcare, and all the other destinations needed to live a fulfilling and prosperous life.
How someone chooses to move could be based on personal preference, convenience, affordability, sustainability, distance, ease, safety and other factors.
First, they need to know what options are available.
Hennepin County’s new webpage and interactive map are designed to make it easier for residents to choose transit for more of their trips:
“While Hennepin County continues to invest in building out a world-class transit system, we also want to make it easier for people to take advantage of the great options we already have,” said Dan Soler, director of Transit and Mobility.
While Metro Transit is the largest transit service provider in Hennepin County, there are several other transit providers and new, specialized services residents may not know about.
Until now, residents had to visit multiple websites to learn about the variety of transit options available.
The new Transit and mobility resources web page and interactive map bring them all under one URL, along with useful information about paying for your trip, discounts, and waivers.
“Whether you’re getting to work, seeing friends and family, or connecting to a Hennepin County Service Center, you may not have to spend $20 on rideshare, and you may have a better experience than driving yourself by taking transit,” Soler said.
Funded by a mobility grant from the Minnesota Department of Transportation, Transit and Mobility staff worked with partners across multiple agencies and Hennepin County GIS to develop “the most complete and usable resource of transit options available to county residents today,” according to Hennepin County Mobility Manager, Clare Riley.
