County Extension Committee - University of Minnesota Extension
The mission of this committee is to discern the particular needs of the county and to implement a program fulfilling the goals of the people of the county and of the University of Minnesota.
Members of the public and local officials can be appointed to serve on this committee.

Structure
There are 9 members.
- Two County Board commissioners
- The county auditor or the auditor's designee - secretary
- Six at-large members appointed by the County Board
Eligibility
An at- large candidate should have some familiarity with the University of Minnesota Extension and an interest in education, the involvement of volunteers, and youth development.
Members should represent a cross-section of the residents of Hennepin County, including urban, suburban, and rural, as well as minority representation
Term
At large members: 3 years.
Responsibilities
Local Extension work includes educational programs and resources in the areas of agriculture, economic and human development, community leadership, and environment and natural resources.
- Prepare the budget for Extension works in the county.
- Recommend to the Hennepin County Board the amount of county funds needed to support Extension work, employ Extension staff, help formulate the county Extension staff's work plan, and encourage residents and organizations to use Extension resources.
Meetings
The committee generally meets quarterly on the 3rd Monday of the month from 10 a.m. to noon.
Compensation
Members may be paid:
- A per diem not to exceed $50 for each meeting attended. Up to 2 meetings per calendar month.
- A mileage allowance.
