Lower Minnesota River Watershed District Board
To carry out conservation of natural resources through land utilization, flood control and other needs upon sound scientific principles for the protection of the public health and welfare and the provident use of the natural resources.
The district is composed primarily of the area between the north and south bluffs of the Minnesota River, extending from the confluence of the Mississippi River at Pke Island, Fort Snelling, upstream to and included Carver.
Members of the public and local officials can be appointed to serve on this board.

Structure
There are 5 members.
- Two appointed by Hennepin County.
- One appointed by Carver County.
- One appointed by Dakota County.
- One appointed by Scott County.
Eligibility
Members
- Must be a resident of the district which includes portions of Bloomington and Eden Prairie.
- May not be a public officer of the county, state or federal government.
- Must have a keen interest in the preservation of water resources. Particularly the emphasis on maintaining water quality standards and reducing adverse water level fluctuations.
Affected cities may nominate persons.
Nice to have
A background in water conservation, farming, development, law, engineering, environment, administration, etc.
Term
Three years-staggered terms.
Responsibilities
- Give 4 to 6 hours each month.
- Review and update the Plan.
- Provide sites on which spoil from dredging of the river channel is dumped.
- Land development and drainage in areas adjacent to public waters.
- Protection and preservation of waters - stream and lake crossings, dredging in or related to water areas, Municipal Drainage Plan, land use and soil characteristics, withdrawal of waters, placement of structures on lots Riparian to Public waters, erosion and sediment control.
Meetings
The board meets on the 3rd Wednesday of each month.
Meetings are in the Board of Commissioners Room, Scott County Government Center, 200 - 4th Avenue West, Shakopee, MN 55379.
Special meetings may also be held.
Field trips to view development request may also be needed.
Compensation
- $125 per meeting day.
- Travel and other expenses may be reimbursed.
