Nine Mile Creek Watershed District Board


This board carries out conservation of natural resources through land use, flood control and other needs upon sound scientific principles for the protection of the public health and welfare and the provident use of the natural resources.

Members of the public and local officials can be appointed to serve on this council.

Structure

There are 5 members appointed by the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners.

Affected cities may nominate persons.

Eligibility

  • Must be a resident of the district.
  • May not be a public officer of the county, state or federal government.

Term

Three years.

Responsibilities

  • Update the Plan to identify water improvement plans and projects which can be petitioned for.
  • Review state, county and city projects.
  • Review and comment on submitted plans.
  • Address question on subjects like surface water management, ground water conservation, water quality, land use and development.
  • Spend approximately 12 or more hours each month.
  • Attend regularly scheduled district meetings.
  • Attend other special meetings or workshops to establish policies, goals or objectives including long-range planning, annual workplans and budgets and implement projects to enhance and protect the district's water resources at 5:30 p.m. on the 1st Thursday of the month.

Meetings

Board meetings are at 5:30 p.m. on the 3rd Wednesday of each month.

Meetings are at Discovery Point, 12800 Gerard Drive, Eden Prairie.

Compensation

  • $125 per meeting day.
  • Travel and other expenses may be reimbursed.

Background

  • Established by the Watershed Act, Chapter 112 in September 1959.
  • Amended by Chapter 509, Laws of 1982, the Metropolitan surface Water Management Act.
