Riley-Purgatory-Bluff Creek Watershed Board


This board carries out conservation of natural resources through land use, flood control and other needs based upon sound scientific principles for the protection of the public health and welfare and the provident use of natural resources.

It provides for the management of the water and related land resources within the area tributary to Riley-Purgatory-Bluff Creek.

Members of the public and local officials can be appointed to serve on this board.

Structure

There are 5 members.

  • Four appointed by the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners
  • One appointed by Carver County Board of Commissioners

Eligibility

At-large

  • Must be a resident of the district.
    • The district includes Bloomington, Chanhassen, Deephaven, Eden Prairie and Minnetonka. 
  • May not be a public officer of the county, state or federal government.

It's helpful to have members who have a background in water conservation, development, law, engineering, environment, administration, etc.

Term

Three years.

Responsibilities

  • Devote an average of 16 hours per month.
  • Prepare and implement a Plan for the management of the water and related land resources of the district.
  • Review and approve submitted project plans of private developers, the state, counties and cities.
  • Issue permits to protect the water and related land resources.

Meetings

The board meets at 7:00 pm on the first Wednesday of every month at 18681 Lake Drive East, Chanhassen.

Special meetings are held to view and act on development projects.

Compensation

  • $125 per meeting day.
  • Travel and other expenses may be reimbursed.

Established on July 31, 1969, by Watershed Act, Chapter 112.
