Lyndale Avenue South reconstruction

County Road 22 in South Minneapolis

Hennepin County, along with the City of Minneapolis, Metro Transit and other partners, plans to reconstruct Lyndale Avenue South (County Road 22) between Franklin Avenue (County Road 5) and 31st Street.

Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027 (subject to change).

Community involvement

Designing a safer road for all

Since August of 2023, we have engaged people who live, work and play along Lyndale Avenue South about the upcoming reconstruction project. The community continues to show great interest in this project. During our three rounds of engagement, we had more than 21,700 points of contact with the community through our combined efforts.

Ways to engage

Our efforts to improve safety and modernize Lyndale Avenue (County Road 22) between Franklin Avenue (County Road 5) and 31st Street in South Minneapolis continue.

Visit our BeHeard Hennepin website for more information on engagement and to see the plan.

Project history

Past engagement

On October 23, 2024, the county hosted an open house at SpringHouse Ministry.

On June 11, 2024, the county hosted an open house at SpringHouse Ministry.

On August 24, 2023, the county hosted an open house at the Jungle Theater.

Safety improvements in 2022

We restriped Lyndale Avenue between Franklin Avenue and 31st Street and made accessibility improvements at the 25th and 27th street intersections. These changes made it safer and easier for people walking, biking, and rolling to travel on Lyndale Avenue.

Community listening session in 2019

Hennepin County hosted a community listening session to gather input about the safety needs and desires for Lyndale Avenue. Information from this meeting was collected and has been used by the county as it has moved forward to address community concerns.
