Hennepin County, in partnership with the City of Eden Prairie, will reconstruct the Pioneer Trail bridge (County Road 1) between Settlement Drive and Highview Drive beginning in spring 2026.

About the project

We’re replacing the aging Pioneer Trail bridge over the Minnesota River Bluffs LRT Regional Trail and adding improvements to make walking and biking safer. Reconstruction is planned for 2026 and will include:

Removing the old bridge and building a new one
Adding bike lanes and sidewalks for safer walking and biking
Keeping the road as a two-way street with one lane each way
Setting up detours for the Pioneer Trail and the Minnesota River Bluffs LRT Regional trail during construction

We’ll share updates and get feedback from residents and stakeholders throughout the project. We will post details on construction and detour routes to help you plan your travel as construction approaches.

Past engagement

The project team held an online open house to share details about construction beginning in 2026.

Related projects

Hennepin County also plans to rebuild the Eden Prairie Road (County Road 4) bridge over the railroad tracks, about half a mile north of Valley View Road in 2027.
