Winnetka Avenue safety improvements

County Road 156 in New Hope

Hennepin County will repave Winnetka Avenue North (County Road 156) from 42nd Avenue (County Road 9) to Bass Lake Road (County Road 10) in New Hope.

Engagement for this project will take place in 2026. Construction will begin in 2027.

We expect to complete design work by early 2026 and make improvements during the 2027 construction season. Projects like this usually begin with intersection work, then pavement work, and finish with restriping.

Potential changes

We are making striping changes to Winnetka Avenue North to improve safety and comfort for everyone that uses the road.

Potential changes include:

Reducing travel lanes to one in each direction
Adding a two-way left turn lane or dedicated left turn lane in the middle of the road
Creating roadway shoulder space for mail and package delivery, garbage pickup, and other curbside services
Constructing pedestrian crossing improvements such as median islands or bump outs at select locations
Reconstructing curb ramps to meet ADA standards
