Eden Prairie Road safety improvements

County Road 4 in Minnetonka and Eden Prairie

In 2026, we're improving Eden Prairie Road (County Road 4) between Excelsior Boulevard (County Road 3) and just south of West 62nd Street (County Road 62) in Minnetonka.

Construction updates

Timeline

May 11 -15

Eden Prairie Road is closed just south of Excelsior Boulevard so crews can safely remove the center median and relocate the signal wiring.

  • The traffic signals will be disconnected at times, and the intersection will sometimes operate as an all-way stop.
  • Through traffic (commuters) will be routed around construction to the west. The detour uses West 62nd Street, and County Road 101, and Excelsior Boulevard.
  • Residents and businesses will have access. The free right turn lane from eastbound Excelsior Boulevard to southbound Eden Prairie Road will remain open, or you can travel north on Eden Prairie Road to just south of Excelsior Boulevard.
  • Be alert for signs and flagging staff to guide you safely through the construction zone.

June 1 through July 31

Be alert for single lane closures near intersections as project staff work on crossings, curbs, and ramps.

August

Watch for paving crews and striping (painting) equipment. Be alert, reduce your speed, and watch for signs or flagging to guide you safely through the work area.

About the project

In May we’ll remove the center median on Eden Prairie Road, just south of Excelsior Boulevard, and move electrical wires for the traffic signal.

In June and July, we’ll improve the pedestrian ramps and crossings at several intersections in the project area.

In August, we’ll repave the road and repaint the lane markings.

Improvements

When work is completed in late summer this section of Eden Prairie Road will be smoother, safer, and will work better for all the people who use it. You'll notice narrower lanes to help calm traffic; upgraded curbs and ramps to make it easier to cross; and new dedicated bike lanes on each side of the road to improve safety.
